Charlie

Charlie is a 1 year old ShihTzu-Chihuahua mix and an absolutely lovely dog. He has been slowly getting used to his new environment and all the new people that come along with it.

He barks when someone unfamiliar approaches him but will go up and sniff an offer hand. He has been good with the small dog in his foster's home and has completely fallen in love with a friend's German Shepherd. He is very cuddly with his foster mom but not so much with foster dad—he seems to be more of a one-person-dog.

Charlie now weighs about 10lbs but was a bit skinny coming into rescue. We are getting him back to a healthy weight, which isn't hard to do as he loves his kibble, chicken and treats!

He is doing well with potty training as well; his foster currently takes him out every two hours so he has successful days. He loves to go outside and is learning how to walk nicely on his leash. He is full of energy, being a young pup.

He cried a bit in his crate for two nights, just at the beginning, but now goes in quietly and sleeps right through the night. He waits quietly and patiently for you to take him out. He has some trouble with stairs, he is still learning how to use them, but with enough encouragement he'll get them figured out in no time.

Charlie would do well with someone who is home most of the day, particularly in the beginning as he is adapting to his new environment. He could do well with older, respectful children. He has not been tested with cats.

Charlie still requires some vetting so he will not be ready to be adopted just yet, but we are accepting applications on him now.
